Gisselle Kohoyda's 2:27.31 in the 200-meter breast was fast enough to place fifth in the finals and was just one highlight for the University of Louisville swim team at the AT&T Winter Long Course National Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center.
"We had a great showing at the USA Nationals," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "Gisselle had a breakthrough weekend with top ten finishes in both breaststroke events. We had lots of second swims from our freshmen and sophomores."
Pedro Oliveira had another top ten performance, going 2:01.21 in the 200-meter backstroke to place 8th.
"Pedro is just short of his Olympic qualifying time," said Albiero.
Freshman Abigail Chin was 15th in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 8:56.63 with teammate Victoria Mitchell finishing 17th with a time of 8:57.23. Lindsey LaPorte finished 41st in the same event.
Tanja Killiainen knocked two seconds off her qualifying time, going 2:15.07 in the 200-meter butterfly to finish 22nd.
In the grueling 1500-meter freestyle, Charles Bolgan was 19th with a time of 16:02.02.
Kameron Chastain also finaled in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:18.29.
