Gavin Mittel Class: Senior Hometown: Louisville, Ky. High School: St. Joseph's Position: Freestyle

Junior: Gavin qualified for the BIG EAST. During the dual season, he was an effective performer on the 400-free relay teams, as well as the sprint free corps. Gavin showcases his leadership as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Sophomore: Gavin set two lifetime bests as a sophomore, when he had strong performances in the 50-free against Western Kentucky and in the 100-free at Notre Dame.

Freshman: He set his lifetime best in the 50-free against Notre Dame and the 100-free at the Indiana Open.

Prep: The native of Louisville, comes to the Cardinals from a long line of swimmers in his family. His brother, Joseph, was the Midwest Swimmer of the Year and NCAA post-graduate scholar in 2004. In his own right, Gavin brought a strong swimming background in the sprint events. He swam at Lakeside for Mike DeBoor and attended St.James High School here in Louisville.

Personal: He is the son of Joe and Leslie Mittel. He was born July 10, 1988. His major is political science.
