Jody Sykes is in her sixth year on the UofL staff, currently serving as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. Before joining the Cardinal staff, she served two years as the Director of Compliance at the University of Pittsburgh, and two-and-a-half years as Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Compliance and Student Services for Robert Morris.
Sykes' duties include interpreting NCAA and BIG EAST Conference rules for the athletic department staff, coaches and student-athletes, processing appeals and waivers, and monitoring and facilitating all aspects of initial and continuing eligibility. She also assists with NCAA rules education for coaches, university staff and other outside entities; helps investigate NCAA infractions matters; and assists with the UofL Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
A former collegiate golfer, Sykes was a four-time letterwinner with the Montana Grizzlies, where she earned a B.S. degree with honors in Business Administration in 1998. During her tenure at Montana, she was the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president and Big Sky Conference representative to the National SAAC for Division I, as well as an intern in the compliance office and athletic equipment room.
Sykes was a recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and the NCAA Women and Ethnic Minorities Internship in 1998-99. She accepted the internship with the Championships department at the NCAA and later completed her graduate work at the University of Arkansas in 2001, earning a Master of Education degree in Sport Management. While at Arkansas, Sykes served as the Asst. Women's Golf Coach (1999-2000) and the compliance assistant for the men's athletic department from 2000-01.
In 2008, Sykes participated in and graduated from the NACWAA/HERS Institute for Admin. Advancement. She graduated from the Division IA Athletic Directors Association Institute in 2011.
A native of Rife, Colorado, Sykes is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA), the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), and the National Assoc. of Athletic Compliance Coordinators (NAACC).
