Ulmer StadiumHome of U of L Softball
Ulmer Stadium, located on the north section of the facility, was the first phase in Cardinal Park to make its debut when the Cardinals played host to Belmont on March 22, 2000. One of the nicest playing complexes in all of college athletics, the venue features stadium lighting, home and visiting bullpens, a climate-controlled press box and can accommodate up to 2,200 fans, including chairback seating for more than 700.
Along with hosting all Cardinal softball games, Ulmer Stadium has served as host to the 2004 and 2001 Conference USA Championships and various high school games. The Playing surface consists of tall fescue grass in the outfield and a combination of 80% sand and 20% clay in the infield. The grounds maintenance supervisor and his crew of five dedicate a great deal of time and energy to the maintenance and upkeep of the field. Their tireless efforts have played a significant role in making Ulmer Stadium one of the most outstanding facilites in the nation. In fact, Ulmer Stadium recently earned 2001 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Turface Award Midwest Regional honors.
The Cardinal Park Sportsplex, adjacent to the stadium, houses the Nancy and Harry Jones Training Room, the Bonnie Rechter Wing with enhanced locker rooms, meeting rooms, concession areas, public restrooms and a Cardinal Store.
