Trager StadiumHome of U of L Field Hockey
The U of L field hockey team christened brand new Trager Stadium on Sept. 22, 2000 with a 3-2 win over Mid-American Conference rival Ohio University. Located in Cardinal Park, the artificial turf surface field is one of the few NCAA Division I venues dedicated solely to field hockey.
On the heels of successfuly hosting the 2001 MAC Championship, Trager Stadium was selected as the host site for the 2002 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. This marked the first national championship that the University fo Louisville hosted since the 1969 NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four was held at Freedom Hall. Bleachers and seating area surrounding the field were brought in to accomodate up to 2,500 fans. A climate-controlled press box was completed prior to the event which brought in several local and national media representatives. Trager Stadium also provides practice opportunities for many other sports during inclement weather and serves as an intramurals facility for the university. The field hockey team would like to extend a special thank you to the Trager family for their continued involvement with the University of Louisville and their support of the field hockey program. |
