On April 21, 2005, the University of Louisville announced the addition of lacrosse as the Cards' 23rd varsity sport and the first step in that move was the construction of the UofL Lacrosse Stadium on the Louisville campus. The facility, completed in the summer of 2006, will serve as the home field for the Cards' lacrosse program, which officially begins play in the spring of 2008.

The Cardinal lacrosse program's offices and lockerrooms will be located next to the Lacrosse Stadium in the brand new Yum! Center, to be completed in the summer of the 2007. Head coach Kellie Young and her assistants will have offices in the Yum! Center, and the Cardinal lacrosse players will also call the facility home. The facility will also feature coaches' offices and a practice courts for the men's basketball team and the women's volleyball team.
